Thoughts: I recall, this car had the head replaced before? Or was it just the head gasket?
On removal of the head, I would inspect carefully for any evidence of cavitation, with a weep hole in a cylinder wall, block crack, or other leak path, while the head is being checked. Open once.. check twice..
