You really can't use a wide seat on a road bike, butt there are some
that are more comfortable than others and minimize the hurt, though
after 50 or 60 miles...

Why not use broader seats like the old bicycles had? The seat on my teenage
bike, a Western Auto Flyer, wasn't uncomfortable at all.
