When the 49 died in my 300sd (bad climate control solenoid wouldn't go into park
and shut off)
I put an old group 34/71 dual terminal Exide in it.
Eventually the glow relay indicated trouble about a year later (glow light
wouldn't stay on).
I put a new group 49 in it and the glow light started behaving normally again.
I think the problem had more to do with the age of the little battery than its
size, it was
about ten years old when I put it in the SD.
