My 93 e320 124 was affected by the self destructing insulation. I had to buy a throttle body for it. I still have the old one if anyone wants to try to rewire it. When I took it out there were bare wires everywhere. It was amazing it worked as long as it did. Once again car-part.com to the rescue.

I was never so happy to see a car go down the road!

For the throttle body, yes.

A new or rebuilt throttle body (“slide”) will set you back a good $1000. There are rebuilders out there like BBA who do them, too. These are around $400-$500, but basically all they’re doing is rebuilding the harness and cleaning the electrical parts.

Are these models affected by the self destructing harnesses? I ask because the throttle body harness would definitely be one that degrades. If someone was in the engine compartment moving things around, they could have caused it to short out as a result of handling or moving the harness.
