Afaik there is only one vacuum pump on the car. It is on the front of the motor and has a big vacuum line coming off to feed the brake booster. It has a rubber diaphragm in it that can go bad. Removing it requires removing the fan.
I have no idea what you are referring to near the firewall. The only vacuum lines on the injection pump control the shift pressure in the transmission based upon throttle position IIRC.
