I did use a vice grip, but I put a thin piece of wood between the belt
and the jaw of the vice-grip to keep from chewing up the belt.

I also looked up the spec for tightening: 40 - 45 Nm depending on where
you look. I had thought it was 10 Nm and the torque I was exerting on it
with the vice-grip/wood clamp was more than that, but maybe not 45 Nm
(33 ft-lbf).
