St Paul Mercantile is a good choice, nice folks. A good GPA shouldn't need to be pumped more than once every 5 or so hours... Curt

But I dont want to pump all the time and these are intermittent indoor use. So I will go with wicks. I would like some brass wick kosmos lamps with Sans Rival chimneys. Anyone know a good source? A round wick lamp will throw way more light, something like a B&H or Rayo can be had on eBay pretty cheap. Alladin lamps are the Cadillac of wick lamps and throw the best light.A flat wick lantern like a Dietz will work but provides pretty poor light as does a deadflame lamp. I find the "lamp oil" to smell like burning crayons and turn solid if temps approach freezing, cut with some low odor kerosene it's much better all around. Whitegas lanterns tend to smell, I don't like them for indoor use. In any case I think you're thinking of thorium which is not so much toxic as radioactive. The fear of radioactivity is mostly unfounded, don't eat mantles. Thorium was replaced with ytrium which, while not radioactive is quite toxic and doesn't throw terrific light. For camping a gas pressure appliance is the way to go, a flat wick lantern will give something like 40 candle power, a small Coleman lantern is more like 200... We had a power failure here last night and the 6yo had no idea anything without batteries could be used for illumination. I am thinking of the wick type or railroad stuff with reflectors because they are beautiful, but perhaps should go white gas mantle - we had a nice old coleman we used to use in riyadh for nightly power failures. But dont those use beryllium or some sort of toxic crap on the mantles? Lehmans seem to have the wick type in various flavors.
