It
does an excellent job and is oil resistant. We used to do this at
the
M-B
dealer in the 1980s. It paid an additional 2 tenths of an hour to do
the job
with a valve adjustment.

If you used JB-Weld and let it set-up, it is doubtful that you did
any damage. RTV silicone is a no-no although I have removed it from
many valve covers and it seemed to be all there. It can plug oil
passages.
