"We are doomed".... make that read "They are doomed"....
As a student of human nature for more than 50 decades, I have yet to see a
society that is subjected to slavery fail to revolt.  The only question to
be answered in the present case is "Now, or later?"

Later defined as "After 70 years of absolute and total subjection by rulers
who believe you are disposable servants to do their desire and will."

It's an individual choice, not a herd reaction.
