All the aircraft makers have had their spectacular failures. Lockheed's was the turboprop Electra, a nice aircraft by many accounts, until the wings came off (literally).... problem was corrected, and some are still in freight and maybe firefighting service, and the P3 Orion is based on the same airframe.
