Nissan CVTs are prone to failure. Ask me how I know!

Your friend's car just had a fried solenoid, didn't it?

I wonder how many are worn out through bad design, hard driving or lack of maintenance vs how many have a MBZ style electrical failure. A friend is the original owner of a 2013 Sentra (made after the bad ones that got extended warranties, so he's been on his own the last six years). Dealer fluid changes every 30kmi and no problems except for the occasional dead battery that's probably operator error. Had something like 110k on it last summer so you'd expect zero major failures in that time on any decent car.
