Basically the way it works with this new job is you have a base but get a bonus for each week you are out based on how many days it is. I talked to them some more and basically they send out an email with what city/dates the trip is and everyone available looks at travel and sends them quotes for the cost. Whoever can get there cheapest will get it. For me, with most flights being connecting flights and flights returning have to generally be after 6-7pm, there would be no flights all the way back to Tulsa so I would have to stay an extra night and fly out the next morning. This will result is me probably getting less “assignments”, resulting in the numbers coming in at the lower end of my estimation.
I also asked about rental cars since you just book travel wherever. At my current job we have a booking tool we used and we have contracts with a coupe of different companies we use. Part of the contract includes damage coverage and we are to waive it at booking. Company won’t cover it. I asked them do they reimburse the rental insurance or what. Basically they are relying on whatever credit card we use to cover it. The bidding process and this rental car liability question are leading me to believe I should pass. However, even if I don’t get as many trips I would end up working 2 weeks a month and would be at home the other 2 working on cars. Could still end up making the same or more than currently, or could be less if my current job does not change anything with our pay plan.
