When the 2016 Chevy Cruze obtained start-stop technology, it came with a
beefed-up starter and a large AGM battery, along with smart charging and
a current sensor in the battery cable so the car knows amp-hours in vs
amp-hours out. Certain temperature parameters must be met, climate
control must not be in MAX/AC or DEF settings, and battery state of
charge must be high in order for it to stop the engine. And if you're
waiting for a train with your foot on the brake, it restarts in 2
minutes.
I just checked with GM Parts Outlet, the battery is #1 on the battery
parts diagram, but they don't give a corresponding part number or price.
I assume it's $200-300.

I know nothing of these setups, other than to say that I had a BMW 3

the engine at every stop” feature which I was able to disable, thank
goodness.
As for a special battery because they do this, I’m calling BS. I have
often wondered if it’s harder on the battery and starter in cars with
this feature, or if the starter is somehow re-engineered because of
the much higher duty cycle.
