You just use a 3/4 ton truck and call it a 1/2 ton.
I have doubts about them off-road, that weight has to make them less capable.
In the end most pickup trucks are just pavement queens rarely used to haul 
anything more exciting than the garbage. For the majority of owners an EV will 
be fine.
