Nice work, Craig! My Dad gave me a crystal radio kit when I was about 7 years old. Had the "whisker" and piece of Galena and a single earpiece. I would go around scrounging for copper to use as an antenna. Later, I saved up my summer work monies and bought the materials to build a copper dipole on the roof of our house (with Dad's permission and oversight, of course) that I used with that and later a couple of different (Heathkit and others) shortwave receivers.
That was a blast and brings back a lot of good memories! -D ________________________________ From: Mercedes <mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com> on behalf of Craig via Mercedes <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Sent: Monday, July 10, 2023 4:31 PM To: Mercedes Discussion List <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Cc: Craig <diese...@pisquared.net> Subject: Re: [MBZ] My camera is as old as the car - 1991 420 SEL - 56k miles - $15, 000 On Mon, 10 Jul 2023 11:51:10 -0500 OK Don via Mercedes <mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > Now THAT was really cool Craig! Worked Germany two days ago, and Tasmania last month with it. Ah, yes! When I had a Novice license in 1964, it was the minimum of the sunspot cycle and I lived nearly under a 66 kV power transmission line in the Westchester area of Los Angeles, CA. The farthest contact I made was Rhode Island and that was just barely.
