Well I cant really go with a manual trans, because the wife cant drive it and refuses to learn. Something about a bad knee. The auto is easier anyway, but I like the command of a stick. The ones with the fuel pressure taking out the ip are the 98-02 I believe. The 03 and up went to the common rail injection etc, have WAY more power and are much more quiet.

Personally I'd go with the 05'. But then again I guess I'd want more info
on the rear end... I know I've heard the newer models (like since 98) you
have to be sure not to lose fuel pressure or they tend to take out the IP...

I know what you mean about enjoying them... My dad's got a 97 or 98 Cummins
Dually with a flat bed/side racks with dump. That thing just hauls. You
throw a trailer that weighs a couple tons on there and a tractor that weighs
another 3-5 ton or so on there and it barely cares....
As compared to his 05' 1500 with the 4.7l engine in it that won't hold 70mph
in 5th gear going up a hill by itself. It's not a dog, 5th is a pretty high
gear. But you throw JUST that trailer on the back and you can practically
forget doing much in 5th unless there's absolutely no incline and no need to
accelerate.

That Cummins torque is addicting... Now if only I could get one in my Benz
or something the size of a Dakota... (:
Hey Mike, you ought to throw one of THOSE in your M37!

Oh yeah my uncle (also named Mike) has like a 95 2500 Cummins chassis that
he put on one of those like late 60's sweptline Dodge bodies on. Looks
pretty cool. Apparently his has been upgraded though as his has a lot more
top end pull to it.

Sorry I'm not more help there Kaleb, but the mention of those Cummins really
gets the "AR AR" (grunt grunt as Tim Allen would do) flowing! (:

Well I went and test drove a couple of dodge cummins today. First up was
a 05 1 ton dually, long bed, 4 door, 4 wheel drive , with leaver in the
floor for switching, with 6 speed manual. I liked it for the fact that
it has the 6 speed, seems like it would get better mileage than the
autos. It needs all new tires pretty soon, especially in the back and
probably alignment. Rode like a 1 ton of course. Shifted good. Is a
BIG truck. Seems like the rear end was howling. Are they supposed to
howl on these? Price as 23k had 101k miles. Next truck was a 03 2500,
short bed, electronic 4 wheel drive, automatic, 4 door. It had leather,
rode smoother, didnt pull to one side. Price on it was 21.5k. I can
say I REALLY love that cummins motor after driving one of them. What do
you cummins ownere thing about this? Good prices? Keep looking? What
kind of mileage will that 1 ton get with the 6 speed? Will it be worse
than the other truck with automatic 3/4 ton? The thing that had me
worried was the rear end howling on the other 1 ton truck.
