To slow down the rust, power wash it clean at the car wash, then spray rust spots periodically with WD-40.Good idea. #2 is even cheaper than WD40, and probably has a lot more parafins in it.
But WD-40 is specifically designed to displace and repel water. (Water Displacement formula attempt #40.) -- Jim
