Well it looks as though it may be no big deal. I reseated the cap this morning and tonight when I got home I got the "woof" inrush of air that I didn't get this morning opening the cap. To be safe I'll buy another seal for the cap from Rusty on Monday. I might as well get the replacement vacuum pump I've been putting off (they're spendy) while I'm at it to save on shipping.
As I think of it I need a new oil cap seal too. Are the two caps the same? They sure look it... Is it normal to need a new seal every year? I replaced this one last year as it was leaking badly, its only leaking a little now but it annoys me. Its the old style metal cap if it makes a difference. -Curt Date: Fri, 02 Feb 2007 12:18:44 -0500 From: Allan Streib <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [MBZ] Uh oh - fuel leak To: Mercedes Discussion List <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Jim Cathey <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > Just 'cause you have a cap leak does _not_ mean you don't also have > another leak somewhere else! Absolutely. Last fall, I discovered that the short flex lines off the fuel tank (both supply and return) on my 300D were leaking. Rubber fuel lines don't last forever, and I think mine were original (at the time, probably 23 - 24 years old). They have been replaced. Both Bosch and Beru make fine plugs. Monark and other aftermarket brands have NOT been satisfactory for me. Marshall -- Marshall Booth Ph.D. Ass't Prof. (ret.)
