Your son-in-law is a Coastie? Or rather, you let your daughter marry a
Coastie?

Being a CPO should make for a nice lifestyle, especially in Alaska. I assume
they will have base housing, and if so, it will be nice.

My suggestion to him: press hard for a CWO appoitment, and then do the
CWO->LT program as quickly as possible. Apply often, apply frequently, and
perseverance will pay off at retirement time when he retires as a Commander at 75% base pay. No OCS required, just a couple months of charm school w/out
anything physical involved.

Never been to Valdez, but in that part of the world Coast Guard is God, and a USCG CPO even more so. The only thing that could be possibly better would
be if he was aviation. (Tell him that and he will hang up on you.)

go out in them any longer].
