Bill - the good things about a Tsunami is that there usually is quite a bit
of warning, so people who live near the water can (rapidly) get to higher
ground, if they are smart enough to listen. Alaska is on the leading edge
when it comes to the monitoring of quakes and warnings - it has so many
thousands of miles on the Pacific "ring of fire" and has had enough damage
over the years to make them pretty proficient.
Not to be an alarmist, but when we were there, the "word" was that Alaska
experienced a quake of 8 or more on average every 10 years. They had a lot
of worried people in '74, 10 years after the big one in '64, and of course
nothing happened. Statistical averages are funny that way! So your
daughter and family may never see one at all while they are there!
There's probably a higher risk of volcanic ash from St Augustine, over West
of Homer, which is one of the fairly active volcanoes. It makes the news
every few years when the steam and ash cause pilots to avoid the area...
You might want to look up on the 'net what you can learn about the Palmer
observatory - some of the stuff is in real time, as I recall.

Did a quick check on Google Earth and see that the elevation of the
housing
units is 12'. Maybe they will be on the 2nd floor.
