Unless I am mistaken you will want to have a feedback system such that the engine speed is determined by the frequency of the output.

Also, unless you're coupling it to the generator (alternator) with a gear or belt drive, the engine is going to have to run at 1800/3600 rpm of 60 Hz, 1500/3000 rpm for 50Hz. Check the horsepower curves for hosepower at these speeds - that will give you an idea of how many kW you can get out of the engine.
