No smoke with bad knocking at idle, smooth above 1500 rpm and low power is the set of symptoms on my 300D that was cured by new delivery valve seals. Bad head gasket didn't help any there, either.
No smoke, low power, and sluggish throttle reponse at low speeds can be plugged fuel filters -- just replaced mine, what a difference!
