I changed one on my 300SD and it was relatively easy, on the 420SEL there
was an extra brace and it took half the day. If I had to do it again I would
remove the dash pad first. 

Also to vacuum out the system I have used a vacuum line from the engine.
That is start engine connect AC gauge to intake manifold through vacuum line
and let engine run (assuming gas engine). However I now have a cheap vacuum
pump powered from air compressor that I got from harbor freight for under
$20.

For the 126 lie on your back with your head next to the gas
pedal.  Look up.  You can see it.  Just.  I have no idea how
one would actually get a wrench on it, much less two of them
to crack the fittings loose.  BEAST is an understatement.
