There are actually quite a number of trouble codes that can be set that will not trigger a chack engine light. There are individual pins that allow you to dump codes on a number of different computers, and only those codees that directly relate to emissions are passed on as check engine. For the best info on M104 codes, take a look on www.mercedesshop.com forums for anything authored by Steve Brotherton (?).
