On the way home it occured to me I have driven a Grand Cherokee and as I remember it was much more like my Dakota than the Cherokee.
In actual fact I probably remember better the vehicles I disliked rather than the ones I did like. -Curt Tom Hargrave <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: The Cherokee and Grand Cherokee are 2 vehicles built on 2 platforms. I would not own a Cherokee. The 6 cylinder engine in my Grand Cherokee is one of the best engines Chrysler built. They have records of thousands with over 300,000 miles in the clock. The transmission was Chrysler's weak point in the early 90s, but has not been an issue for years. I lost the transmission in my Grand Cherokee at 155,000 miles and I'm not complaining. I also regularly get higher than the rated both on my 190D and Dakota. In fact I did on my '88 GMC too. I've never driven a Grand Cherokee but my parents had a Cherokee and I hated it, worst 4x4 I've ever driven, my '88 GMC S15 ate it alive in the woods and for mileage and for comfort, and for handling. The 4.0 i6 was a powerful engine though. The folks have a pair of Liberties now and they sure don't impress me. Its not like I don't have anything to compare them to... -Curt Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2007 17:01:24 -0600 From: "Tom Hargrave" Subject: Re: [MBZ] MB Diesel Powered Grand Cherokee To: "'Mercedes Discussion List'" Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" I drive a 01 Grand Cherokee with 170,000 miles on the clock & my Wife drives a 05 Grand Cherokee with 35,000 miles on the clock. Bash if you'd like but the Jeep Grand Cherokee is an excellent vehicle. I can't say the same for my oldest Son's M class, which had an engine rebuild at 85,000 miles........ And the diesel engine in the Grand Cherokee is the same one that's in the Mercedes. It's manufactured by a subsidiary in Italy. I don't drive a diesel Grand Cherokee because the cost per mile is less in my 01. I get 18 MPG in the city & 21 MPG on the highway with my in-line 6 cylinder engine. The diesel Grand Cherokee is rated at 21 / 25. Right now, Chrysler offering a lifetime warranty on all Jeep engines, except for the diesel. Why not the diesel? Because they don't expect the same reliability from the engine. Wife works for the company & I asked the right people.
