No, they've just gotten stupid. I've had 2 cars fall. One fell when a ramp that my brother welded together failed. The other fell when the cheap jack stand that was holding it up failed.
My dad had one car fall on him when a jack that was holding it up gave way. He almost got out but it caught his shoulder & did a lot of damage. If he had not moved then his head & upper body would have been squashed since the tire was off the car. Every oil has a blend of additives to help it do the job it is designed to do. The jack was unsafe before you added the oil because you had to add oil. If there is a leaking seal on an jack there is a possibility that the seal will let go entirely and that ain't good. Usual safety warning, do not get under a vehicle that is only supported by hydraulic oil and rubber seals.
