Luckily, it was inside an enclosed charger and there was no fire, and they really were alkalines and not lithiums (for which there are some really scary YouTube videos out there). The stench alone is worth avoiding. Yes, you can rig some circuitry and yes, you can probably do it far more "safely" than I did - but my bet is most will just try to run in some current and hope. Bad Plan. Sure, you CAN recharge a non-rechargeable alkaline, but it's just not really worth the trouble. Or the damage. CR2032 batteries are normaly lithium. Frankly, I just wouldn't bother to even try a recharge. I save that for really expensive batteries. See above regarding scary videos. I have a little trick - I visit the local Home Supply Store now and then and pick up some of those inexpensive flashlights (usually headlamps) that use the CR-style batteries. There are normally two or three batteries in there - and the headlamps are normally on sale for maybe $5. At the store off the shelf, you sometimes are asked to pay that for one CR2032 alone. :-) (By the way: C=Lithium, 20=20mm diameter, 32=3.2mm height. Amazing what you can learn sometimes. I had no idea that info was coded into the name) JC > -- > Eschew obfuscation and pompous prolixity. > > Light a man a fire, he is warm for the night. > Light a man afire, he is warm for the rest of his life. >
