The file is _ONLY_ written to during the initial connection
during modem setup time. After that it just sits there
waiting to be read after a crash. I've used the FILE option
ever since it became a feature of Miami(Dx) and have never
had a problem. The RAM: option typically doesn't survive
crashes.
The suggestion by someone else to use static DNS numbers
may also work.
