My general experience with the RAM: option, and dynamic DNS entries is as
follows:
User system reboot - generally survives, and works with my ISP.
GURU induced reboot - generally locks up Miami; subsequent user reboot
(or two) generally reconnects as above.
In some cases, the RAM reconnect does not work at all; Miami does not lock
up, but it does not reconnect either. In such cases, I just wait for the
connection to drop, or manually flip the power switch on my external
modem. The behavior with my ISP varies; sometimes I can reconnect 30
minutes or more after rebooting my system (the modems stay connected for
that period of time, even though connections are supposed to be dropped
after 10 minutes of inactivity); other times, I cannot reconnect
immediately after rebooting.
I have always wondered about the file option. If I start up my system
with the file still out there, does Miami try to use the file? Even if
there is no connection already established? I normally just turn my
system off after closing my applications, and never bother to disconnect
Miami first.
