I had promised myself that I would not respond to all this
talk, but I cannot hold back, anymore. Before I continue, please
do not take this as a put-down on anyone, nor a back-slapping to
anyone.
I am as disappointed as the next Amigan, in that Holger has
not returned any (or, most) of our E-Mails, and those who wished
to pay by cash, money order or check, were not able to have it
accepted. My reasons are that, if not for his willingness to
help me, through E-Mail, I never would have been able to properly
understand his Miami, and I would not have been able to start
using it and now help others who want to use it. Then, too, my
brother will be needing the use of Miami and the SSL, soon,
which means that he will have to register and then get the key-
files for the SSL, to use the U.S. version.
What I find disturbing about what I have been reading, here,
are the conclusions and the actions, suggested. Granted, if you
cannot get any response from Holger, you, would figure he either
has abandoned everyone and everything. The only things, which
makes little or no sense, are, if those of you who insist that
he wants nothing more to do with the Amiga, are: 1. Why has he
left his Web site up and running, with the products there for
download? 2. Why is there any way, at all, available, to pay
for the registration? I cannot answer these questions, but, I
would surmise that, if he were not interested in the Amiga, he
would have gotten rid of the Web site, period.
Also, comparing this with the .LHA situation, is not accur-
ate. If you read the docs, which come with the new version, you
will see that the current author tried to contact Boburg, to get
official permission to continue with the work. He was willing
to give a royalty to Boburg for the privilege to advance the
program and accept registration. It was only after he had pro-
duced the update/upgrade and put it on the Aminet, stating that
it was not official because the official author had not respond-
ed, that Boburg did respond and even gave the code. In keeping
with that, the new version was posted as freeware.
Unfortunately, I do not have any solutions to our dilemma at
not getting any response from Holger. I can only suggest that,
if you cannot get the needed keyfiles, which will allow you to
use Miami and its SSL, fully, then, you *must* seek out a dif-
ferent package, which is not authored by Holger Kruse. I do not
know which packages offer the abilities, found with Miami, and
its ease of use, if you are located in the U.S. I leave that up
to the rest of this list to make that suggestion.
Sorry, that I had no fix. I just wanted to set things
straight, as I saw them. Thanks for hearing me out.
