The 5 brands I or my kids have had that have had huge issues are: Maytag, LG, Samsung, Kenmore, Whirlpool. Another friend has a Frigidaire with all the same issues but since I never had to maintain it I'm not sure if they go thru all the extra maintenance on a regular basis.

The dryers all work great, but the dryer design is nothing new so you'd expect that. Also keep in mind you are putting less because the front loaders have smaller capacities than top loaders.

My first posting to homeappliancepower list. I must be getting old.

Something I have not seen really mentioned here, is that there are very few actual brands these days.

There have been a ton of mergers in the last few years...so check to see who is really manufacturing what: you will be surprised to find that Maytag/Whirlpool and many other brands are all the same mother company. I can't quote them of the top of my head...but the better half once sold them during college and have rattled them off to me in the past when we were appliance
shopping (same for dishwashers, fridges, etc...)

My .02: top loaders for the win. Fisher-Paykel is a brand people don't often know of but
have a great global reputation and what we use.
