Unless he's having his garage built and has yet to specify a ceiling height or has no ceiling or joists in the away in an existing garage, he may want to consider a portable lift that assemble by hand and raises the vehicl only a few feet. These are available for $2K or less (at least they were when I check on them a few years ago). A Web search will probably turn up several brands.
