Subject: [microhydro] Re: auto alternator output
" Hello Radu:
First thing, when you provide a link, please do not enclose it in
parentheses ( ). It makes the link inoperable for those people who
have browsers that handle the links.
Secondly, I think we need to back this conversation up and start at
what should have been the beginning. You cannot really discuss a
mini hydro installation intelligently, unless you give some idea of
the loads that the system is expected to carry, hopefully the timing
of those loads, and other details of how the system is operate. "
Great point, Oso !
I am sure that you right, because there is absolutely the same principle
like in electrical circuitry: the COMPATIBILITY of source of energy ( flow
of
mass) and mechanical load (turbine, water wheel, ram pump, etc).
By analogy we may expect that criterion of COMPATIBILITY is:
Rl= Rl
where:
Rf - analogy "hydro resistance" of flow
Rl - analogy "hydro resistance" of load
The next step is how to define these values ( Rf, Rl )
I have determined just Rl right now as:
Rf = h/dxV x l/S (1)
where:
h - head [m],
d - density of flow [ kg/mxmxm],
V - velocity of flow [m/sec],
l - length of penstock (pipe) [m],
S - square of section of penstock (pipe) [mxm]
You can see that the structure of (1) is
absolutely like R(Ohm) for electricity,
where:
r = h/dxV
could be interpreted like
r - "specific hydro resistance" of flow
I think it would be interested to apply (1) for
practical estimation. Everyone can do it.
Alex
