Hello Simon, Thank you for the additional information regarding the needs of Alpha Capital - I've responded to a few of your inquiries below but I've cc'd our mifos-functional mailing list so that our community can better respond to your needs as I'm not a technical user ;)
Regarding the outsourcing of your reports, I'll get you in touch with Khadija Shamte in a separate email. Now onto your questions. 1. Upon deposit, withdrawal and loan repayment a receipt should be issued. At the moment, a user will make the transaction and go to reports, type the account number and generate a report which will act as a deposit/withdrawal slip. I wish it was dynamic. >>[ec] - the functionality of the electronic publishing or the generation of >>admin documents - http://www.mifos.org/developers/wiki/ElectronicPublishing - >>should be fairly dynamic if properly configured in the BIRT designer. Our >>community will give you a much more thorough response. 2. The system does not give a facility todo basic accounting, like entering salaries, transport and other expenses etc. >>[ec] - strongly agree that integration amongst accounting/payroll/HR is >>highly important - however the great variation in accounting requirements and >>systems from region to region makes it hard to incorporate a "standard >>accounting" package. Over time, as we develop better APIs and modes of data >>import/export integration capabilities will expand - please review interface >>Jitegemea developed to export data and enable integration with their >>accounting software, Pastel - http://tinyurl.com/6qt6ua 3. Quite a number of reports are needed like balance sheet, trading account, profit and loss account etc. Am able to create other reports but it's time consuming and would prefer to outsource the service. >> [ec] I'll get you in touch with Khadija of Adept regarding outsourcing of >> your reports creation - but please look over the revised reporting >> documentation recently published - it includes specific details regarding >> using the standard reports, installing BIRT, and creating and localizing new >> reports. 4. I have installed it in linux which is case sensitive in the database schema. I had to change some tables manually to archive this. But i will test Mifos 1.2 and i will be able to tell you how i find it. >> [ec] Our developers work widely in linux and I'm sure will be happy to >> respond :) Please make sure you reply to mifos-functional and try to carry out these ongoing discussions via our community mailing lists so the entire community can benefit from the shared advice. I hold a bachelors degree in computer science and i have been developing system using java, mysql, postgres and jsp for web applications. I registered online to mifos some few months ago. The microfinance institution is called Alpha Capital and it's operations are similar to grameen bank of india. Alpha capital is a new and small MFI based in rural kenya with about 3 branches. I have managed to install mifos 1.1 and is running fine. These are some of the challenges i find in the system of which i believe will be a plus to the product. 1. I’m glad to hear of your interest in Mifos – are you part of an MFI in the Kenya region? I’d like to learn more about your organization and how it intends to use Mifos. Currently our latest release, Mifos 1.2, includes three basic reports templates - branch progress report, branch cash confirmation report, and collection sheet report. Documentation for the reporting requirements for our community deployments can be found by visiting our deployment project pages. We’ve also updated our documentation regarding reports creation to help the ease the process of designing your own reports. If you respond back with more information regarding the reports you need, I will get you in touch with Adept Systems, a Nairobi-based Mifos Specialist who could potentially offer you a reports design service. Please also join our mifos-users mailing list – similar to a forum here you can post messages and send emails regarding any questions/concerns you may have. Our entire community can respond to your message to help you out – there are several ongoing discussions regarding reports so I highly encourage you to do so.
