Whoops, I glanced over these details before. I think this might suffer 
from the previously discussed issue of being difficult to predict where 
a feature will open. It's not that complicated, but it's not quite 
straightforward and obvious. I propose the following behaviors:

* Focus only changes by clicking the selection icon. A pointing hand 
could work well for the icon. A CO can be added for controllers to 
toggle between the right panes.
* When focused, a feature's left pane is shown.
* Clicking feature icons always opens the feature in the focused right pane.

I think this would be simple and intuitive. This is the same as the 
known two-panel file manager model, but the focus is decoupled from 
simple clicks in the track tables. This requires the user to explicitly 
and intentionally select the focus. I think this may solve the issues of 
accidentally swapping panes and provide a clear way to select the left 
pane for features that already have right panes open. Thoughts?
