A friend of mine had a Plymouth Laser (The same as the early Eclipse). Her
timing belt broke with only 19 or 20k on the clock. It happened in stop and
go traffic when she started moving.

Same friends had a '97 Jetta GLX. Got into a head on accident that was
strong enough to crack the dashboard. He survived with a big bruise on his
chest from the airbag. The insurance didn't total out the car and gave it
back after 6 months in the shop. They dumped it afterwards. Too many
squeaks and rattles afterward.

: I can attest to this as well. My friend has a 92 Talon TSI and one night
at
: import drag night, after a particularly hard shift, the timing belt jumped
a
: few teeth, there was a bad sound from the exhaust at about 6K rpm, and it
: ran no more. We had to tow it home. When we took the head off, two of the
: valves were almost snapped off, and the rest were bent -very- badly.
: Fortunately (if there is a fortunately in this situation...) the
combustion
: chamber walls were not scratched, so he ended up buying only new pistons
and
: a new head.
