At least you're smart enough to let go of the car when it starts to
become a money pit.  I've held onto a few cars WAY PAST their prime
and have taken my share of financial baths because of it.  

While I enjoy the 16v VWs for their simplicity, it's now at a point
where I don't know that I want one as a daily driver anymore.  There
are simply too many newer cars that are better BUT they don't have
the same "soul".  

Have fun looking for a replacement - heck, more than half the fun is
in the looking.
