I am sorely tempted to go with a solid front mount for my ITA car but
haven't done so due to money restrictions (bought a house in
Berryville, about 20 minutes from Winchester which put a little crimp
in my racing budget). In any case, I've had VWMS mounts in the car
since I built it about 9 yrs ago - they were the most brutal mounts
I've ever had in a car and they've lasted rather remarkably well.
For a street car, I'd say "No" to solid mounts. Even for a
pseudo-track car solid mounts would be a stretch since EVERYTHING in
the car will shake and rattle to the vibrations of the engine. I ran
the Techtonics race mount in my 16v Slorocco and pulled it out after
about 3 weeks b/c I was loosing fillings, the screws in my glasses
were falling out and EVERTYHING in the interior either rattled or
shook. The upside was that my back didn't bother me during that time
b/c of the nice vibra-massage that I was receiving <G>
Hope that's enough ammo - go with a race mount if you want but don't
go with solid unless the car is a dedicated track/racecar.
