I've always found physical devices to be much more reliable (typically the emulator doesn't even start, or crashes on startup), as well as being faster. That said, assuming the emulator itself works, and has enough resources, so should Fennec. Reasons why it might hang or crash: * You've got a bad build. * Your emulator and the APK have mismatched architectures (e.g., ARM APK on x86 emu, or ARMv7 APK on ARMv6 device). Check your emulator settings. * Lack of resources is causing some bizarre behavior in Android itself. * … Using `adb logcat` while launching Fennec should give a useful log.
