Probably you and me have different comprehension of the "spreading the
word" and "making a convert" concepts. For me, every convert is a
potential contributor to mod_perl as core source or patch writer,
documentation contributor and another tester.
It's very important for us to "spread the word" and to "make converts" as
this is how we ensure the future of mod_perl, what features would be added
and how fast the new version would be tested and you will feel confident
to use it on your production server.
Please don't forget that we aren't a write-sw-to-sell shop. We are the
write-sw-to-use it shop, we don't have as much time and as many developers
the write-for-sale shop can afford, so every new person who beleives into
mod_perl counts.
Probably many of you underestimate the power of the silent unknown users
on the list who send a bug report from time to time. Each user uses
mod_perl in a way we didn't think about, spots and hopefully patchs the
bug he discover in a new environment. And we all benefit from this,
because when we happen to be running in some new enviroment it's always
helps when someone has already been there.
I don't underestimate the enourmous work Doug and other folks did for
mod_perl, but I hope they will agree with you that without a strong
community mod_perl would never be in the status it is today. And the
community is all about people, and many of these people are converts.
So we do want converts and we do want to spread the word. Please do
that!!!
