No, you should be fine. However, I have also simply installed a new perl on top of the one shipped by RH with no problems. (I did this because I wanted to use 5.6.1 rather than 5.8.0.) You will be blowing the RPM system by doing that, so it's not an advisable way to handle a large cluster of machines, but it works fine if you just need to get a quick dev environment bootstrapped. - Perrin
