Since you are having the discussion on a mod_ssl support list, I find
this unsurprising.

If the author has to help with the install, that doesn't say much for
the package, does it? I didn't think I had anything to add to Ralf's
suggestion that RPMs were not the way to go, so I didn't add any noise.

You don't need support if you have not yet attempted an installation.
Once you have a problem that you need help with, I think you'll find the
Apache-SSL list as forthcoming as support lists usually are.
