Well, it *is* a pragma in the sense that it replaces UNIVERSAL::VERSION, which has far reaching affects on every module that is loaded with 'use module 1.0'. It was the "action at a distance" complaints that started this whole discussion on p5p, anyways. Just because I was not able to make it even more pragmatic (and who knows, I may still figure out the correct 'tie' invocation to do this in the CPAN module) doesn't mean it doesn't act like a pragma now...
