If you offer up a shape as I described, 18 cm by 10 cm with one 3 cm by 3
cm corner cut off; the bit cut off is located at the bottom of the rebound
spring, the rest wraps around and neatly forms a flap covering the rebound
spring at the front.  (10 cm is the distance from the kingpin shoulder to
the bottom suspension arm, at the bottom end of the rebound spring.)  As
Colin says, the grease comes out above the bronze bush.

Lifting the flap at the bottom, one can see the rebound spring.

I have bearings on the bottom, not damper blades.

For cars with damper blades, lever up the phosphor bronze bush and apply
some grease.
Scrape off any grit at the chassis end of the blade and apply a little oil
to facilitate in and out movement.  There should not be any rotational
movement about the kingpin axis.
