We have a Camaro LT 1 engined Z28 from 1993 and with it,s six speed manual 
transmission and aerodynamic cleanliness does remarkably well returning 22 or a 
bit more in long distance cruising
And that with a 300 pound driver and smaller U.S sized gallons.  So V 8's need 
not be so wasteful.
