Car preparation is simple, at the venue usually one needs to deflate the tyres to the minimum allowed pressure to enable them to flex and clear mud, also the resultant wider footprint can help. So an accurate gauge and a pump are needed. Quite often the organisers' reference gauge is a bit wrong, so be prepared to tinker with the pressures in your tyres. In the unlikely event of no minimum pressure being specified - don't go too low and allow the tyres to break the seal or rotate. As far as driving, work on the ideas of "making hay while the sun shines" and avoiding wheelspin. You should aim to build up a reserve of speed allowing you to shed speed in difficult sections. The balance of this is often what makes winners, along with an obvious necessity of knowing exactly how to place your car. Newly qualified drivers often do well as the timidity of their approach to the task can pay dividends. Sons and daughters have beaten fathers before! LSDs in theory confer a huge advantage but a well driven 4/4 will often do well owing to smaller size, lighter weight and narrower tyres. rgds Martyn View posts on The Mail Archive http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ <https://www.listbox.com/member/?& b> Modify Your Subscription <http://www.listbox.com> _____ I am using the Free version of SPAMfighter <http://www.spamfighter.com/len> .
