Modern stock rarely has windows and seats aligned…… Dave _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 09 May 2012 21:59 To: mogtalk2 Subject: [mogtalk2] now trains - zero Mog content My favourite passenger rolling stock is the early open Mk.2s because: They were not air conditioned so you’re not in a sealed tube out of which you cannot get your head; The seats all lined up properly with windows (glass not Internet); The view is better from a table seat than from in a compartment. A compartment was ok if you had it to yourself! With the B4 bogie you get a smooth 100mph ride. Modern stock is not too bad if you can get a table seat. I hate sitting with a seat back inches from my nose. TC David. There is a better class of person now because MPs have to pay the extra to travel First. :-) LNWR was always better. The Royal Train is still painted in LNWR colours. As I recall with the LMS at least, on the main line there was little option other than compartment stock. My understanding is that the GWR and probably others introduced open carriages as something of a novelty and these became more popular as time went by. I imagine that by dispensing with compartments, the weight of the carriages came down which must have provided an additional incentive for the railways. Richard. Spotmog.
