Yes, you'd need a mon.cgi.cf and a htaccess (or equivalent) file to
regulate access properly in this case.

But at least if you use LDAP, you don't have 2 separate user DB's. I
agree, this is a complex and hackish solution for the problem you are
facing. My feeling at the time was that it wasn't something many people
were asking for and probably wouldn't use, and I thought it would
complicate the average users' setup, probably needlessly.

I'm sure adding access control for hostgroups inside mon wouldn't be too
hard. I still think the configuration aspect would be challenging though.
