I'm pretty old like Bruce, too. I saw both THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE
BROTHERS GRIMM and HOW THE WEST WAS WON in 3-strip Cinerama at the
Kachina Cinerama Theatre in Scottsdale, AZ (Phoenix suburb) when I was
a child around 1963. They converted to single strip Cinerama (or
Ultra Panavision70) for IT'S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD in 1964.

I clearly remember the "joins" between the three screens when I saw
these movies as a kid, and finding them somewhat distracting.
Similarly, the Caesar's Palace Casino in the 1970s had one of the
very first Imax theaters. The image filled the entire roof, which
was like half of the inside of a rubber ball sliced open! That was
super impressive, and in recent years I have gone to other Imax
theaters, and they were a pale comparison.
And don't get me started on the size of candy bars when I was a kid!
They were 10 cents, and weighed a ton. Now they cost 50 cents or a
dollar and weigh next-to-nothing.

Isn't real Cinerama the three camera/three projector set up as
described here:

Recently, in Australia, so-called IMAX screens have opened in
several multiplexes, but it's a trade name only, and doesn't reflect
the true nature of a purpose built IMAX theatre, nor does it come
close to really relicating the IMAX experience of 100% IMAX shot
films.

Maybe popular as people wanting to see the film but not for the
price of movie posters. Bruce just sold a linen backed one sheet for
only $99 for IAMMMMW. The posters for 2001: a space odyssey seem to
sell for a lot more - even the non Cinerama roadshow ones.

No real surprise. Not are these not just studio issue 35mm publicity
transparencies that were issued for colour magazine use at the time,
but
extremely scarce behind the scenes shots with
their own film-connected
provenance for what is arguably the most popular Cinerama film of
all time, and
the ONE Cinerama film that has developed an enormous cult following
over the
years.
