Real Cinerama was 3-strip. But, How The West Was Won had some scenes filmed in
70mm Ultra Panavision (the white water raft scene) and others came from The
Alamo (70mm Todd-AO) and Raintree County (MGM Camera 65 - same as Ultra
Panavision) and then were converted to 3-strip. It was decided that since some
of the scenes were not filmed in 3-strip and the audience did not complain
about it - How The West Was Won was the Boxoffice champ that year, that all
films promoted as "In CINERAMA" could now be filmed in 70mm. The join lines
were gone but, it wasn't real Cinerama anymore.

This raises an interesting point. Do films that
were shot in 70mm (and its variants) and projected via a single projector on
the
Cinerama screens qualify as real Cinerama (despite the famed concertina logo on
posters and what this adds to value of say 2001 posters)?

Isn't real Cinerama the three camera/three
projector set up as described here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinerama

Recently, in Australia, so-called IMAX screens have
opened in several multiplexes, but it's a trade name only, and doesn't reflect
the true nature of a purpose built IMAX theatre, nor does it come close to
really relicating the IMAX experience of 100% IMAX shot films.

Anybody spot any errors in this Wiki
article?

Maybe popular as people wanting to see the film but not
for the price of movie posters. Bruce just sold a linen backed one
sheet
for only $99 for IAMMMMW. The posters for 2001: a space odyssey seem to
sell for a lot more - even the non Cinerama roadshow ones.

No real surprise. Not are these not just studio issue 35mm publicity
transparencies that were issued for colour magazine use at the time, but
extremely scarce behind the scenes shots with
 their own film-connected
provenance for what is arguably the most popular Cinerama film of all time, and
the ONE Cinerama film that has developed an enormous cult following over the
years.

was definitely shocked at the ending prices each time. There is something to be
said about that kind of item. They are totally unique. It's a captured
moment in time and I was fascinated by the images. However, I just couldn't
go those prices for 5 slides.

getting way more for the slides than what a movie poster for the same title
would fetch. Amazing.
